Autographs - NEW!
Arturs Irbe is my favorite NHL player. I remember going
to my first NHL game in March of 1994. That first game turned out to be an
important one in Sharks history. It was the game that Sergei Makarov
scored a hat trick, his third goal was scored on the Sharks' first-ever penalty
shot, against Tim Cheveldae. Of course, Makarov was one of my
favorites. I also noticed this smaller-than-average Latvian goaltender,
bouncing around in the crease, making tons of saves. The Sharks ended up
winning 9-4. Arturs Irbe was a fan favorite during that season, and he
became my favorite player. I remember rooting for the underdogs as they
beat Detroit and just narrowly lost to Toronto in 1994. When I started to
play league hockey later that year, it took me less than a second to choose my
jersey number: 32, the same number that Irbe had as a member of the
Sharks. In March 2000, I met Arturs for the first time, getting his
autograph at the Hotel De Anza and posing for a picture.
In September 2000, that picture was featured in the InkTrail
section of Beckett Hockey Collector.
I've started to collect as many different Irbe cards as I
can. This has proven to be a tough task. Here is a list of all of
Archie's cards, that includes parallels and inserts. As you can see, I don't
have very much right now. As I find out about more oddball issues (such as
Panini stickers and European cards), I'll add those onto the list. Cards that are in
red text are the ones I
own; if the card I own is serial-numbered, then that number will appear next to
the card on the list. Yellow
text indicates cards that are on the way. There are links to a few scans
for some of the cooler items listed. If you have some Irbe cards on here
that I don't have, or any parallels that I don't
have, please let me know, and we
can make a trade! Also, if you know of an Irbe card that isn't on this
list, let me know and I'll add it to the list! Thanks!
New Acquisitions
July 27, 2002... found a 92-93 Topps card of Irbe at a card
store. That's #150 for my collection!
July 19, 2002... got one new Irbe card: 94-95 Score Gold
Line (Embossed Pinnacle Logo), plus added a new section called "Archie
Autographs".
July 15, 2002... got three new Archie cards in a trade
with Darren Pardy: 01-02 Topps Own the Game, 99-00 Stadium Club, and 00-01
Premier Plus. Also got two Carolina Hurricanes pocket schedules (00-01 and
01-02) that picture Irbe on the cover (yes, I'm counting those as cards since
their sizes are almost as big as cards).
June 21, 2002... got four new Archie cards for my collection at a
card shop in Toronto: 92-93 Red Ace, 01-02 Pacific Adrenaline Power Play, 01-02
Pacific Crown Royale (Green Retail), and 01-02 Topps Reserve.
