The Edmonton Oilers were a pretty competitive club in 2000-01, finishing 6th in the Western Conference (2nd in the Northwest Division).  However, all-star forward Doug Weight was sent off to St. Louis along with Michel Riesen.  In return, they got Marty Reasoner and German winger Jochen Hecht.  In addition to that, the Oilers signed free-agent Steve Staios, who had a career season with Atlanta in 2000-01.  Add that to the emergence of Mike Comrie as one of the NHL's brightest young stars.  Olympians Tom Poti and Eric Brewer bolster the team's defense, and Georges Laraque gives 110% every shift and is one of the most valuable players on the team.
