The Washington Capitals had a decent year in 01-02, but they just barely missed the playoffs (9th in the Eastern Conference).  Jaromir Jagr debuted this season in D.C. to lukewarm reviews.  Peter Bondra was one of the top goal scorers in the league, and Sergei Gonchar had a very big year.  Jeff Halpern's season was cut short with an injury, and the team had to call up guys like Todd Rohloff, Stephen Peat, and Nolan Yonkman to fill in for some of the injured folks.  The team has always been competitive (at least recently).  Jagr's signing habits have gotten better as a result of playing in Washington, and his teammates are even better signers!
